We look at how health and social care systems can be organised, resourced, and supported to deliver sustainable, high-quality care and work in the decades ahead.

Our researchers investigate the structural transformation of health and care organisations, the adoption and governance of new technologies, and the optimisation of pharmaceutical supply chains and patient pathways. The theme also focuses on the role of organisations in supporting the health and wellbeing of their own workforces, recognising the critical role of decent and sustainable work in overall health outcomes.

New Roles, New Challenges: Understanding boundary work to support the implementation of new roles in mental health Trusts

This project, led by Damian Hodgson (Organisation Studies Research Cluster) will help us understand how mental health services can best implement new roles, to maximise benefits for staff, service users and organisations.

Sustainable return to work

A study, led by Karina Nielsen and Jeremy Dawson (both Institute of Work Psychology) to test a sustainable return to work intervention using the 'IGLOO' methodology (focusing on Individuals, Groups, Leaders and Organisations). This is a two arm pilot cluster randomised control trial to inform whether and how a future fully-powered definitive trial might take place.
