SCA-Emp Diagnostic Toolkit
This project, led by Dr Juliana Matos De Meira, Emerita Professor Pauline Dibben and Emeritus Professor John Cullen, focused on utilising supply chain accounting to improve employment practices across the supply chain.

Project description
Funded by the ESRC, the Supply Chain and Employment Practices (SCA-Emp) project aimed at balancing people and profit. The project focused on utilising supply chain accounting to improve employment practices across the supply chain.
The research, led by Dr Juliana Matos De Meira, Emerita Professor Pauline Dibben (Principal Investigator) and Emeritus Professor John Cullen, included academics and practitioners from the UK, South Africa and Brazil.
The project led to the development of a business diagnostic SCA-Emp Toolkit. The toolkit is a result of co-production with practitioners from professional bodies including CIMA and CIPD and various companies in Brazil, South Africa and the UK. It is designed to equip organisations to be able to self-assess HR, accounting and procurement practices.
The toolkit has been used by managers in accounting, HR, procurement and supply chain management for strategy planning, team building and bringing suppliers and customers on board with organisational goals. Managers assess progress against a range of statements, make plans for improvements and then print dashboard-style reports and actions plans.
The use of the toolkit has led to increased transparency and knowledge transfer across supply chains, resulting in improvements in competitiveness, productivity, profits and, most importantly, better labour standards for companies and their suppliers.
