My course let me enjoy the excellent lectures of both the Management School and the Information School.

I wanted to plan my career in business, so studying at a well-known management school was a good choice. The University of Sheffield is a great institution with a long history, and the Management School is also highly awarded, holding Triple Crown accreditation. I chose to study Information Systems Management because which let me enjoy the excellent lectures of both the Management School and the Information School.

Sheffield is a beautiful city with a totally different environment to my home country. The University provided a bus from Manchester airport, making it very easy for me to get to Sheffield, especially considering I had 25kg of luggage. Life was so good in Sheffield. I went to the gym and played basketball weekly, and I even met my girlfriend in Sheffield.

I use the skills from my lectures in my day job.

There was a lecture called Information Project Modelling. I became a software product manager after graduation. In this role, I designed the process and structure of information systems, a skill that I learnt from the lecture.

I loved the team work in tutorials so much. In my opinion, lectures just let you know something whilst in tutorials, we had a lot of discussion, based on the variety of reading materials, which created more inspiration.

Since graduating, I have been working as a Software Product Manager for Kingdee Software.

In my role as Software Product Manager, I have responsibility for summarising business models and producing product roadmaps based on customer requirements. Based on those roadmaps and technical suggestions, I then produce product photography and related documents, cooperating with the technical team to accomplish products. I also work on production support, compiling related documentation and resolving daily production issues with stakeholders.

I have taken part in designing some applications which were used by more than 100,000 users. It brings me a great sense of achievement that those apps really help.

My advice for future students looking to study at Sheffield

Read as much as possible, beyond what professors ask you to do. Try to make academic reading a habit and try to build an academic thinking model.

Use your weekends wisely, go to different cities and different countries. Sheffield is located in the middle of the UK, which makes it so convenient.

Try to make friends from all around the world. Everyone comes from different backgrounds and their stories will be part of your wonderful memories in Sheffield.
