On 20 October and 10 November 2023, Sheffield University Management School was delighted to host its first series of workshops for academic staff exploring Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and what it could mean in an educational context.

The sessions covered the basic principles of AI, as well as foundational concepts regarding Generative AI. This allowed the academics in attendance to gain a basic conceptual understanding of its power. Topics covered in the workshops included:

  • Prompt design for both Google Bard and Chat GPT to support learning and teaching
  • Qualitative and quantitative analysis using Generative AI
  • More complex prompts to assist in the creation of various learning and teaching materials

These workshops represent the start of the Management School’s digital innovation strategy, focused on building technology capabilities amongst staff and students. This work is in line with the University of Sheffield’s digital strategy and employability agenda.

The School is planning to run further events in the Spring as part of continued efforts to increase its digital learning, teaching and research footprint.
