The Athena Swan Charter is a framework which is used across the globe to support and transform gender equality within higher education and research. It was established in 2005 to encourage and recognise commitment to advancing the careers of women in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) employment.

The School has been awarded the bronze accolade, which runs for five years.

The School was commended after its application provided an honest and comprehensive analysis of data to identify priority areas for action and demonstrated commitment from senior management to supporting the ambitious action plan.

Karen Niven, School Director of One University, said: “I'm delighted the School has received the Athena SWAN Bronze award.

“It is recognition of our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion at SUMS and recognises the School as a place where everyone can flourish regardless of gender.”
