The celebrations began with prosecco and networking on arrival before guests were welcomed by Professor Fraser McLeay, Associate Dean for Education at the Management School. We heard a congratulatory speech from our alumna Laura Bradley, who graduated in 2022 with a BA Business Management with Employment Experience and a place on the Dean’s List, before joining the NatWest graduate scheme.
Laura shared some of her valuable insights since graduating - here are a few of our favourites …
- Don’t let comparison with others get in the way of carving out the future you want for yourself
- Never underestimate the power of your networks
- Embrace the growth mindset - try new things
On this occasion Professor McLeay had the honour of awarding our newest members of the Dean’s List with their trophies on stage, with the announcements made by our Director of Undergraduate Education Dr Robert Marchand. Professor McLeay also thanked our PhD graduands for their important contributions to the Management School’s body of academic research.
Our University and sponsored prize winners were announced by the School’s Programme Director for BA Accounting and Financial Management Mohammad Rajjaque, who welcomed our CIM South Yorkshire representative Matthew Trueman to present the Chartered Institute of Marketing undergraduate prize. Our Top Performers - who achieved the highest overall academic grade out of every person on their programme - were then awarded by Professor Andrew Simpson, Programme Director for BA Business Management.
Each year we like to say a special thank you to all of those graduands who have contributed to the life of the School in a significant way. This year, our Programme Director for BA International Business Management Dr Richard Bruce had the pleasure of thanking our Student Ambassadors, Content Creators, and Academic Representatives for the work they have done in the Management School.
Last but absolutely not least, we were delighted to hear some inspirational words from our special guest and member of our advisory board Teresa Hitchcock. Teresa Hitchcock is a partner in DLA Piper’s Sheffield office, a member of the Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership, chair of a Sustainability Partnership sub-group, as well as being an Ambassador for the University’s Grantham Centre for Sustainable Futures.
We love Teresa’s key messages …
- Be resilient
- Work-life balance is important
- Be the best in class (you already are!)
We would like to say a huge thank you to all of our wonderful guests, and a special thank you to our speakers Teresa Hitchcock, Laura Bradley, Professor Fraser McLeay, Dr Robert Marchand, Mohammad Rajjaque, Professor Andrew Simpson and Dr Richard Bruce for making this such a special celebration.
It is our pleasure to welcome our 2023 members of the Dean’s List, PhDs, prize winners, top performers and contributors to the thriving SUMS alumni community!
