Day in the life of an accounting and finance masters student
Join Sahil Mohammed, an accounting and finance masters student, on a day in his life at Sheffield University Management School to get a flavour of just some of the things you might get up to studying at Sheffield.
8am - Wake up
9.30am - Walk to the Management School
I have a lecture and a seminar today at the Management School. It's a short walk to the building which takes me around 20 minutes.
10am - Lecture
The lecture this morning was two hours long and focused on the impact of regulatory changes on the financial services offered by commercial banks and the risks faced by them. It explored a real-life case study of a commercial bank.
12pm - Lunch
I went for lunch at the Interval Bar, which is in the Students' Union, with my classmates.
12.30pm - Visit the careers fair
Today I visited the careers fair at the Octagon to explore future career options and network with potential employers.
1pm - Tutorial
The objective of this weekly tutorial is to practice questions around analysing financial statements using financial ratios. The tutor helped me think about the questions from a broader and more practical perspective.
3pm - Attend a CV workshop
The Employability Hub at the Management School were hosting a CV building workshop. The guest speaker explored numerous points about what to include in your CV.
4pm - Group revision session
I met up with my classmates at the Information Commons to study for an upcoming test on Quantitative Methods for Finance and Accounting.
7pm - Dinner
I went for dinner at Heavenly Desserts with my flatmates. It's located in the city centre, a short walk from main campus.
