Member of The Dean's List, class of 2021

During her degree, Lauren made the most of opportunities within her student community, becoming an active society member and taking part in Enactus projects.

Contribution to social enterprise ‘Motion’

Lauren joined the student social enterprise group Enactus working as Sales Officer on the flagship project called ‘Motion’, and was later promoted to Project Lead. The project aims to promote the benefits of exercise in the health of older people in settings such as care homes.

Having to adapt quickly to the pandemic, Lauren successfully sought new ways of working to maintain their relations with care homes and to continue providing the all important sessions. After leading her team through in-depth decision making and liaising with business advisors, Lauren came up with creative solutions including the use of Facebook Portal TVs, helping care homes to understand the technology and retrain volunteers.

Lauren also helped to initiate a #Messages campaign, which saw over 40 handwritten letters being delivered from students to care homes. The scheme was so well received, it was brought back for Christmas 2020.

Because of Lauren’s efforts and her team’s contributions to Motion, the project was awarded Highly Commendable for the ‘Overcoming Adversity Award’ in the Enactus UK National Competition 2021.

Supporting the community

During a summer teaching internship with The Chantry School in Worcestershire, Lauren proactively supported schoolchildren with their academic needs. She ran after-school Maths sessions for A-Level students, delivered talks about college and university life, and tutored a school pupil to help with their Maths skills.

When another opportunity to work at The Chantry School came up, Lauren jumped at the chance, this time adapting to delivering online sessions amidst the pandemic.

As well as dedicating a lot of her time to the Enactus Motion project, Lauren was an active part of the wider student community as a member of the Management Society, the Mathematics Society and the University Canoeing Club.

A professional perspective

Managing to work from home alongside her studies, Lauren held an HR Administrative role for The Community Housing Group and took part in the Bright Network Experience UK online, gaining real-work simulation experience and networking with other students around the world.

After completing her degree Lauren secured a graduate role as a Technology Risk Consultant at EY in Birmingham.
