Kornélia Drotarovská
BA Business Management and Economics
Member of The Dean's List, class of 2020
Kornélia's Dean's List award recognises her passion for creating a more sustainable world and her ambition to gain an international perspective.
Preparing for the world of work
Kornélia received an international summer school scholarship to study social entrepreneurship in Barcelona and completed extra modules in Spanish and Academic English to improve her language skills. She successfully gained work experience at Novotel Sheffield carrying out a food and beverage role and completed an internship at the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic, Department for Business Environment and Innovation.
Kornélia also carried out the roles of Vice President and Treasurer of the Women in Business Society, gaining valuable employability skills while contributing to University life by organising a KPMG assessment workshop for society members.
Passionate about sustainability
Kornélia has a clear passion for supporting her local community and for creating a more sustainable world. During her time as a Visionary in the ENACTUS Events team, she organised events as a way of raising funds to be invested back into other social projects.
She took a hands-on approach to caring for the environment, by volunteering with the Don Catchment Rivers Trust clearing the rivers of Sheffield to help them continue flowing through the city, and was a regular attendee of the weekly SUMS ‘Lunchtime Litter Pick’ group.
Share and share alike
As a Student Mentor Kornélia shared the benefit of her experiences so far, and as an Academic Representative she shared her classmates’ feedback with the Economics Department to help make constant improvements to her course. She was praised by her mentee as being “the best mentor I could have asked for”. She also took part in the Careers Service eMentoring scheme as a mentee, benefiting from the valuable insight and knowledge of our alumni.
Outside of the University, she became a member and Fundraising Volunteer of UNICEF on Campus, building her confidence and simultaneously helping others by participating in door-to-door fundraising for the global charity.
Next for Kornélia
After graduating from Sheffield University Management School Kornélia continued her studies at Sheffield, completing a Masters in Economics. She has now secured a graduate role as a Tax Consultant at the international accountancy firm BDO in the Slovak Republic.
