Announcing Our New Joint Theme Leads for Engineering and Manufacturing

The Centre for Machine Intelligence (CMI) is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Jon Stammers and Prof. Tom Hayward as our new joint Theme Leads for Engineering and Manufacturing.

Jon Stammers and Tom Hayward

We're excited to announce Dr. Jon Stammers and Prof. Tom Hayward as our new joint Theme Leads for Engineering and Manufacturing at the Centre for Machine Intelligence. Their collaborative leadership will significantly boost our efforts to integrate machine intelligence across these vital sectors.

Dr. Jon Stammers, from the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC), brings extensive expertise as the Senior Theme Lead for Data, Connectivity, and AI in the Integrated Manufacturing Group. With a background in Electronic Engineering, Jon's work focuses on enabling Smart Factories through data capture, AI applications, and understanding the impact of new technologies in manufacturing. He's a key contributor to our events and a leader in the field.

Joining him is Prof. Tom Hayward, a Professor of Materials Physics from the School of Chemical, Materials, and Biological Engineering. Having completed his PhD at the University of Cambridge, Tom's research centers on nano-scale magnetism and spintronics, particularly in developing energy-efficient neuromorphic (brain-like) computing devices. His work aims to revolutionize how we use AI by drastically reducing its energy consumption.

Together, Jon and Tom will drive innovation by bridging cutting-edge machine intelligence research with practical applications in engineering and manufacturing. Their combined knowledge will foster new collaborations within the University and with our industry partners. Please join us in congratulating them on their new roles. We look forward to the exciting advancements their leadership will bring to the Centre for Machine Intelligence.
