CMI Town Hall Event

CMI Town Hall

Event details

Inox, The University of Sheffield, Western Bank, Sheffield, S10 2TG

Description

Please join us for the next Centre for Machine Intelligence (CMI) Town Hall on Wednesday 11th March 2026 at Inox. This event is in-person only and open to anyone with an interest in AI and data - you don't need to be actively using AI in your work to attend! This is a fantastic opportunity to network, hear what's happening at the CMI, and across the community. It's also an opportunity to explore a key topic across AI disciplines: language.

Language lies at the heart of modern generative AI - Large Language Models such as ChatGPT brought transformers to the public attention, and alongside other techniques have led to advances in areas such as materials discovery, and software engineering. At the same time, the impact of these models on research, society, and on public discourse is receiving increasing scrutiny.

Give a Talk or Pitch
If you're interested in giving a talk about language or another topic, let us know on the registration form. We'll do our best to include as many as we can! This can be a short 1-minute pitch or a longer presentation.

Have a problem, solution, or research you want to share with the community? We also invite you to give a short, 1-minute community pitch. These are open to everyone, regardless of your current use of AI.

Agenda
The agenda includes an update from CMI Director James Marshall, presentations from guest speakers including Christos Christodoulopoulos (Information Commissioner's Office), Nikos Aletras (NLP Group), and Edwin Brown & Shaun Donnelly (RSE Group), as well as a session of 1-minute community pitches.

Stay tuned for more speaker announcements coming soon!
