Structural Integrity Testing Facility University of Sheffield (CENTROID)
Bringing together the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering 's research facility groups and initiatives under one banner, providing state-of-the-art experimental capability for the future of aerospace, medical, sustainable transport, and manufacturing sectors.
The Structural Integrity Testing Facility provides state-of-the-art experimental capability for evaluating the performance, reliability, and durability of engineering materials, components, and structures under a wide range of loading and environmental conditions.
Equipped for testing from room to high temperatures and from quasi-static to complex fatigue regimes, the Facility supports research and industrial programmes across the aerospace, medical, sustainable transport, and manufacturing sectors.
Operated by experienced technical specialists, it offers comprehensive testing services, method development, and data acquisition to underpin academic research, industrial innovation, and education.
Embedded within the University’s strategic research infrastructure, the Facility enables high-quality experimental evidence for design, validation, and structural integrity assessment, forming the technical foundation upon which the Sheffield Centre of Excellence in Structural Integrity Testing will build its broader research and collaborative activities.
CENTROID will be focused on testing at material and component levels as well as small to medium size structures at ambient temperature and under flexible loading conditions. These will be carried out in the laboratories in the Mappin complex, Advanced Structural Testing Centre, and Hadfield tower where required.
