Research Project Title: Understanding the effects of permability and surface roughness on turbulent open channel flows.
The aim of this research project is to understand the effects of surface roughness and permeability on turbulent flow behaviour in open channel flows, and accordingly to develop new empirical correlations that can be used to predict open channel flows for a given surface roughness, permeability, and flow depth. These objectives will be achievedusing Stereoscopic Particle Image Velocimetry (S-PIV) experimental technique. S-PIV will focus on the cross section of the flume to resolve all three components of the velocity, turbulent statistics and associated flow structures.
