Research Project Title: Blast Mitigation of Explosive Devices in Aqueous Foams.

The threat of intentional explosive events is a continued global threat to both human life and the economy. It is therefore important for methods of mitigation to be developed to stop or reduce the impact of these kind of events. Previous studies have shown that water is an effective mitigator of blast effects. However, water is difficult to contain around an explosive charge, especially when time and sensitivity to movement are a concern.

This research will therefore focus on aqueous foam as a method of suspending water around an explosive charge. The aim is to investigate the effectiveness of aqueous foam as a mitigator and the mechanisms that provide the energy reduction.
