He will also serve as the President of the Management Board and lead the Healthcare Informatics research group. Dr Sitek is a physicist and comes to Sano from IBM Watson Health in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA.
Prior to IBM, he was employed in the Clinical Informatics Department of Philips Research also located in Cambridge. From 2006 to 2015, before his industry career, Dr Sitek was as an assistant professor of Radiology in Harvard Medical School and worked as a clinical physicist in Radiology Departments of Harvard teaching hospitals: Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital.
Dr Sitek moved to Boston in 2006 from the USA west coast where he was employed as a Staff Scientist in the E.O. Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory at the University of California at Berkeley. He holds a PhD degree in Physics from University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada and an MSc degree in Biophysics from the University of Warsaw, Poland.
His professional interests are concentrated around the use of computing in healthcare. He specialises in applications of statistical methods in medical imaging and healthcare, medical data visualisation, machine learning and artificial intelligence. Throughout his career in the academia and the industry, he created numerous innovations which are being used in clinics around the world.
Dr Sitek is an inventor on more than 20 patents and author on more than 100 clinical and scientific papers, abstracts, book chapters, and editorials. He is the author of “Statistical Computing in Nuclear Imaging” a book published by CRC Press in 2014.
He served as a principal investigator on research grants from National Institutes of Health and American Heart Association, mentored students, postdocs, junior faculty, served in scientific committees and directed and organised courses at several professional meetings.
He is a member of the editorial board of Physics in Medicine and Biology.
