My positive experiences at Sheffield are hard to sum up briefly! The teachers were friendly and proactive in communicating with students, always ready to offer support. The courses were rich and flexible—being able to choose assignment content kept me highly engaged. The campus, scattered across the beautiful city, was a pleasure to study in, and the excellent student union provided countless great activities that made my time there fun and fulfilling.

Preparing me for my career

My time at the University of Sheffield laid a robust foundation for my current role as an API Developer at HSBC Technology Center China. It expanded my global outlook—directly valuable for collaborating with cross-border tech teams on HSBC’s global banking API ecosystems—and strengthened my technical English proficiency, enabling seamless communication with international stakeholders (including foreign leaders) during requirement alignments, API design reviews, and cross-region project syncs.

Additionally, earning a Distinction validated my ability to deliver high-quality, detail-oriented work under pressure, a mindset that translates perfectly to meeting the bank’s strict standards for API reliability and data security.

Beyond technical skills, the university’s international environment honed my cross-cultural communication agility—critical for my proactive participation in company initiatives, especially interactions with foreign leaders, where clear, context-driven technical communication is key to aligning global API strategy with regional business needs.
