Jim joined the school in January 2026, teaching across the BA and MA practical journalism modules.

He graduated from the University of Sheffield with a BA in Journalism Studies in 2005.

Jim started his career at the Matlock Mercury newspaper in Derbyshire, before moving into radio as a reporter and newsreader at Hallam FM in Sheffield.

He has spent the last 16 years at the BBC, initially at Radio 1's Newsbeat where his roles included reporter, newsreader, presenter and political editor. 

He went on to work at BBC Radio 5 Live for more than a decade, where he produced and edited shows across the network. His most recent role was assistant editor on 5 Live Breakfast, a daily three-hour news and sport show covering politics, sport, technology, social affairs, health, entertainment and everything in between.
