Welcome Week

Welcome Week is your first week of University. It runs from 21 - 25 September and is when you will register as a student of the University, meet your classmates and staff, and familiarise yourself with your course. All students are expected to attend.

Once you register, you will be given access to your full, live timetable. Your first Welcome to the School session will take place Monday 21st September - 10am in The Wave, Lecture Theatre 2. This may be subject to change, so please ensure you register and check the Welcome Week Handbook.

Your attendance is expected at all sessions relevant for your programme.

You may also wish to look at the Student’s Union webpage for details of events and activities that are taking place across the University.

Late arrivals

All students should try to attend Welcome Week. However, if you are unable to join us for the start of Welcome Week, it is important that you contact us as soon as possible by emailing ijc@sheffield.ac.uk as this can have an impact on your studies.

Please also see this information on start dates for details of the latest possible start date for your programme. The BA Journalism programme has an earlier start date than the majority of programmes.

Module selection

Your degree is made up of a number of modules, each worth a certain number of credits. Programmes may be made up of core modules, which are mandatory, and optional modules, where students can choose from a pre-defined list. All modules are core on the first year of the BA Journalism programme and all modules are core throughout the BSc Data Science programme.

Once you register, you will gain access to the student handbook which provides more information on your modules.

Accessibility requirements

If  you have a long-term impairment or condition that has an impact on your studies please ensure you contact the Disability and Dyslexia Support Service (DDSS) to ensure that the support you need is in place as soon as possible.

If you have any access or emergency requirements (such as requiring assistance in the event of an emergency alarm or require ground floor or lift-accessible venues) please also ensure that you inform the School of this directly by emailing  ijc@sheffield.ac.uk
