Global Sustainable Development Offer Holder Days
As part of your offer holder day at Sheffield, you'll be spending some quality time getting to know the School of Geography and Planning and your chosen course.
Arriving on campus
You will have booked to visit us either from 10am to 12.30pm or 2pm to 4.30pm on your offer holder day.
Please arrive in good time for the start of your booked session, as we'll need to scan the QR code from your booking confirmation to register you.
Your offer holder open day subject activity will take place in the Geography and Planning Building, with your first session starting in room B04. There will be lots of open day staff and ambassadors around campus to assist you.
If you arrive late for your booked session, please report to the general information stand on the Students’ Union concourse, where event staff will be able to help.
When booking, you'll be able to reserve a place for yourself and one guest at the school activities. To ensure safe venue capacities, the school is unable to accommodate any additional unbooked visitors.
However, you're welcome to bring additional guests to accompany you on the day, and we would encourage these guests to take part in our range of central exhibitions and tours while the department activities are running.

Here's what to expect from your time with us. Timings are approximate and are subject to change, and so we recommend checking back prior to the event.
Arrival and welcome
(30 minutes before session start time)
Our academic course team and current Global Sustainable Development students will be on hand for an informal chat before your first session.
Global Sustainable Development (GSD) at Sheffield: Course Talk
(40 minutes)
Academic staff and student ambassadors (some of our current students) will dig deeper into the course, covering key information such as modules, contact hours, teaching and assessment methods, field trips, and career support. There will also be time at the end of the talk to ask any burning questions you have during a dedicated Q&A.
Doing Global Sustainable Development (GSD) at Sheffield - Part 1
(35 minutes)
Once you have discovered more about the course in the Welcome Talk, you will then get to participate in the first of two interactive GSD-focused activities, working with academic colleagues and current students alongside your future coursemates. These will show how our world-leading research is transferred into the classroom.
Break (with refreshments)
(20 minutes)
There will be a short break between the two activities, where you will visit the common room, grab some refreshments in our Common Room and get to know academic staff, current students, and your potential future coursemates even better! If you have any further questions after the welcome talk or first activity, you can also ask them here.
Doing Global Sustainable Development (GSD) at Sheffield - Part 2
(35 minutes)
After the short break, you will then get to participate in the second of two interactive GSD-focused activities, working with academic colleagues and current students alongside your future coursemates. You will explore some of the skills you will learn as a GSD student.
Note: while you are participating in the 2 x GSD-focused activities, supporters have the opportunity to pop by the common room for our Supporters’ Drop-in. Here, they will be able to speak to some different academic colleagues and current students, asking any additional questions they have. This also gives you time to continue making and building connections with future coursemates, current students and the academic staff leading the session(s) - truly immersing yourself in the life of a Global Sustainable Development student!
At the end of your visit, you are welcome to join us for an optional building tour before you leave.
Central Exhibitions and Tours
Note: Central exhibitions and tours will run for a limited period during the day, if you're attending an afternoon session please ensure you make time to visit these before your schedule starts at 2pm - check your offer holder day guide.
