AC Davidson's research centres on the intersections of social justice and sustainability, with a focus on feminist and queer theory on body-environment relations and methodological questions on the ethics, aesthetics and politics of knowledge production.
Prior to joining Geography and Planning at Sheffield, AC worked at the University of Huddersfield as a Lecturer (starting in 2018) and Senior Lecturer (from 2021).
AC's PhD (University of Oxford, 2018) was on the body and relations of power in urban cycling in Los Angeles. Using multi-method qualitative research this project investigated the linkages between cycling and gentrification, unequal urban exposures and neoliberal subjectivities - as well as movements to resist these. They completed a Masters of Environmental Studies at SUNY-ESF in Syracuse on a Fulbright scholarship and a MA(Hons) in Sociology and Politics at the University of Edinburgh.
Between study and academic posts AC has also worked in environmental and outdoor education, consultancy and care work.

I'm currently working on three main strands of research:
Questions of embodiment, difference, energy and queering social reproduction in relation to the mobile work of truck driving. This work is ongoing as part of the Trucking Lives project, with colleagues at Newcastle and Oxford, funded by the ESRC.
Interdisciplinary and grassroots ideas of Geoethics - or an 'ethics of the earth' - particularly in relation to mining as an extractive industry. I co-lead this interdisciplinary project with colleagues in Geology and Human Geography, at Huddersfield, UCL, Witwatersrand and Otago, funded by the British Academy.
Equity and justice in geoscience education. As the GAIA (Geoscience access, inclusion and attainment) project, we completed a series of action-research activities (a Spring School, workshops, funded by NERC) with a focus on enhancing access to, and belonging within, geosciences in higher education.
