Final-year undergraduate students have once again rated Sheffield’s engineering courses amongst the very best in the UK, matching the exceptionally high satisfaction scores achieved last year.

The latest results confirm that the Faculty has maintained its strong position at the top of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities, with outstanding performances across a wide range of engineering disciplines:

  • Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering: both the subject areas of Aeronautical & Aerospace Engineering and Mechanical Engineering secured the number one spot in the Russell Group.
  • Biomedical, Civil, and General Engineering: all three disciplines performed strongly and are within the Top 5 in the Russell Group.
  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Computer Science: rated number one and number two respectively in the Russell Group for 'Student Voice', highlighting how highly we value our students' feedback.
  • Materials Science: Ranked number two in the Russell Group for 'Academic Support'.

Reflecting this widespread success across the board, Sheffield was ranked first in the Russell Group for Engineering and Technology across four core themes: teaching, learning opportunities, assessment and feedback, and student voice.

Matching last year’s strong results is a fantastic achievement, and it shows that the day-to-day dedication of our staff is genuinely paying off. An engineering degree is incredibly demanding, so knowing that our graduating students are leaving us with such a positive reflection on their time here is incredibly rewarding. It proves we are successfully balancing high-quality academic education with the supportive, practical environment our students need, and it sets a great standard as we look forward to welcoming our next cohort in September.

Success across the University
The Faculty’s success mirrors a positive result for the University of Sheffield as a whole, which continues to be a Russell Group leader for student experience.

In the latest survey Sheffield was rated number one in the Russell Group for ‘student voice’ confirming that students feel their feedback is genuinely listened to and acted upon by the University. The University of Sheffield Students’ Union was also once again named the best Students’ Union in the Russell Group, highlighting the vibrant community and support available to students outside of their studies.

The results follow the University of Sheffield strengthening its top 100 global standing with a 10-place rise in QS World University Rankings 2027 last month, as well as being recognised as one of the world's most international universities by Times Higher Education earlier this year
