The University of Sheffield has been recognised for the strength of its student experience in the latest National Student Survey (NSS), with its Students' Union ranked the best in the Russell Group and the University rated number one in the Russell Group for Student Voice.

The annual survey gathers feedback from final-year undergraduate students across the UK on their university experience, providing valuable insight into teaching, learning, academic support and the wider student experience.

The University achieved its strongest result in Student Voice, reflecting its commitment to listening to feedback and working in partnership with its Students' Union to continually enhance the student experience.

It also performed strongly across a wide range of academic disciplines. Students rated Sheffield number one in the Russell Group for teaching in engineering and technology, alongside landscape design, Iberian studies, genetics, mechanical engineering, ophthalmics, nursing, bioengineering, medical and biomedical engineering, civil engineering, physical geographical sciences, health sciences and childhood and youth studies.

Engineering and technology was ranked first in the Russell Group across teaching, learning opportunities, assessment and feedback, and student voice. Nursing and midwifery also achieved outstanding results across multiple themes, while psychology, childhood and youth studies, physical geographical sciences and ophthalmics were recognised as Russell Group leaders in several areas of the survey.

The results build on another successful year for the University, which was ranked 82nd in the QS World Top 100 University Rankings 2027 last month. Earlier this year, the University was also recognised as one of the world's most international universities in the Times Higher Education rankings, reflecting the strength and diversity of its global community.

Professor Mary Vincent, Vice-President for Education at the University of Sheffield, said: "These results reflect the strong partnership between our students, the University of Sheffield Students' Union and colleagues across the University, who work together every day to create an outstanding student experience.

"We are proud to be ranked number one for student voice and to see the Students' Union recognised as the best in the Russell Group. Listening to our students and acting on their feedback is fundamental to how we continue to enhance every aspect of university life.

"It is also very rewarding to see so many of our subjects recognised so highly in this year's survey. We will continue to build on these strengths to ensure every student benefits from a world-leading education and exceptional university experience here at Sheffield."

The National Student Survey provides an important opportunity for students to share feedback on their university experience, helping universities and students' unions identify strengths and opportunities for continued improvement.

The University of Sheffield remains committed to working in partnership with its students and Students' Union to ensure every student receives an outstanding education and rewarding university experience.
