Jefersson A. dos Santos is a researcher in computer vision and geospatial AI, currently an Assistant Professor (Lecturer) at the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom. Prior to this, he was an Associate Professor at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brazil (2013–2022), where he developed research bridging methodological advances in computer vision with real-world applications.

He holds active leadership roles in the international research community, serving as Associate Editor for Neurocomputing and the ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, Co-Chair of the ISPRS Working Group on AI/ML for Geospatial Data, and Vice-President of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) UK & Ireland Chapter.

His research has been continuously supported by competitive funding schemes, including the CNPq Productivity Scholarship (2016–2022), the Serrapilheira Institute Research Grant (2021), and the Royal Society Apex Award (2026), reflecting sustained international recognition and impact. His work integrates methodological research with real-world applications, with experience in collaborative projects with industry partners focused on translating advances in computer vision and remote sensing into operational solutions.

Research interests

My current research interests include machine learning, computer vision, image processing, and remote sensing. Besides always aiming at excellence and impacting outcomes in Computer Science, I am especially interested in inter-, cross-, multidisciplinary research.
