Join the Belief, No Belief and Religious (BNBR) Life Centre
The Belief, No Belief and Religious (BNBR) Life Centre invites expressions of interest to anyone wanting to volunteer to join our team as advisors or associate chaplains.
Current Vacancies
The BNBR Life Centre currently has 11 distinct chaplaincies within it, with voluntary roles for people to act as advisors or associate chaplains. Roles currently vacant and occupied are shown here.
General Information
Advisors and associate chaplains typically have a specific religion, belief or no belief identity and likely belong to a local group or community or organisation.
Some appointed to such roles already have a role at the university and offer this as volunteering time, additional to working hours, or as work-time volunteering by agreement with their line manager.
Others who are appointed volunteer from a local community setting, and receive the basic expenses, agreed in advance, of visiting the university.
Some who join our team are serving in a religion/belief/no belief capacity elsewhere, and their role allows them to spend some of that employed time working as part of the BNBR Life Centre team.
Associate chaplains are individuals who have been trained and already operate (or have previously functioned) as religion/belief professionals.
Advisors are people who have a good working knowledge of the diversity of their specific religion/belief/no belief identity and can field initial queries and signpost to further resources.
Where chaplains and advisors have relevant and suitable training / qualifications / experience they may join in with our Listening Ear offer and other types of one-to-one support of staff and students, and group work.
Everyone joining our team as advisors and associate chaplains are required to carry out an enhanced DBS check and share that with the BNBR Life Centre.
