Harry Roper (BA Architecture) and Aakash Mathialagan (MArch) have been nominated for the prestigious Architect’ Journal Student Prize 2025, which celebrates the work of architecture students across the UK.
Undergraduate student Harry Roper’s project “Interweaving a Community” aims to address the social and economic divisions in the city of Wakefield through fashion. This is imagined through a partial retrofit of a 17th century merchant’s house in the city, using the structure to house clothing repair workshops, classrooms, retail and fashion shows.
MArch graduate Aakash Mathialagan’s nominated project “Retrofit Vanguard: A Civic Retrofit of Dundee’s Post Office”, is a reimagining of the 19th Century sandstone post office building in Dundee. The design includes a new atrium space, ground-source heating and a wood workshop, all built with bio-based materials such as straw, timber and lime to ensure high energy efficiency.
Nominations for the prestigious Architect’s Journal (AJ) student prize are submitted by tutors of ARB and RIBA-accredited architecture programmes.
