Profile

Rosy began her studies in 2020 when she completed a Foundation Year with The Department of Lifelong Learning at The University of Sheffield. She then joined the former Department of Sociological Studies at Sheffield University and completed her Undergraduate Degree in Sociology with Criminology in 2024. She then studied her MA in Social Research, which she completed in 2025. Rosy’s research interests are prison abolition and alternatives to carceral systems. Her undergraduate dissertation was a theoretical exploration of abolitionism and the eradication of formalised policing and prisons. 

Qualifications

Undergraduate Degree with Foundation Year in Sociology with Criminology. 
Masters Degree in Social Research

Research interests

Rosy's thesis explores how criminalised people conceptualise the criminalisation process and how these conceptualisations can aid in legitimising abolitionist theory within the wider public. 

Rosy's research interests are 

- Police and prison abolition
- Social theory
- Decarceral practices
- Grassroots organising for revolutionary causes

Grants

Rosy was awards the ESRC White Rose DTP 1+3.5 scholarship for the project "Breaking Carceral Cycles: An abolitionist investigation into how criminalised people’s experiences can advance perceptions of abolitionist legitimacy in England and Wales". This project began in 2025 and will end in 2029. 

Teaching activities

Rosy has taught on SLW212 Prisons, Prisoners and their Families.
