Our brand new series invites authors of new research in political economy to discuss the motivations behind, contribution and implications of their work. The series will be hosted by Remi Edwards and a rotating co-host, who will be joined by researchers from all career stages to discuss what inspired them to undertake the research and how it helps us to understand contemporary capitalism, its challenges and how to tackle them. New episodes will be released monthly.
This first episode, however, offers a solid grounding in what political economy is an approach to studying the social world. Remi is joined by SPERI colleagues Andy Hindmoor, Liam Stanley and Natalie Langford who explore what political economy means to them and how they use it in their own work.
If you're teaching political economy to new students, this podcast may be a useful tool for getting students thinking about the diverse ways political economy can be understood, including around struggles, labour, power, capitalism, and the intersection of politics with economics.
