Partnerships

We are proud to be research partners of PETGOV, the Political Economy and Transnational Governance group at the University of Amsterdam. Since 2016 we have engaged in collaborative research, held joint workshops, and SPERI and PETGOV researchers have spent time as visiting fellows at each institution.

SPERI also has strong links with MaxPo - the Max Planck Sciences Po Center on Coping with Instability in Market Societies - in Paris, and with the Yale University Gilder Lehrman Centre for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, & Abolition.

Our researchers also have strong partnerships with leading academics around the world including at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, the University of the West Indies and the University of Queensland.

Within the University of Sheffield we work closely with academic departments in the Faculty of Social Sciences, as well as other university research centres and networks including the Grantham Centre for Sustainable Futures, the Urban Institute, Sheffield Institute for International Development and the Sheffield Methods Institute. We have worked in collaboration with the South-East European Research Centre (SEERC) at the University of Sheffield International Faculty, CITY College, in Thessaloniki, Greece, and through the White Rose University Consortium.

Our research has led to regular engagement with international and national policy organisations and government departments. This has included policymakers at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), International Labour Organization (ILO),the United Nations University and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

Our researchers have advised UK government departments including HM Treasury, the Home Office, Department for International Development, and government agencies including the Food Ethics Council and Food Standards Agency. Our partnership with the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Inclusive Growth led to regular engagement with UK parliamentarians.

We partnered with the New Statesman to run the New Statesman/SPERI Prize for Political Economy, won by Marianna Mazzucato in 2014 and by Simon Wren-Lewis in 2016. We have worked with the Beyond Slavery & Trafficking hub on openDemocracy to run blog series, podcasts and other features.

We have also worked on research projects and events with leading UK think tanks including the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR), the Resolution Foundation, New Economics Foundation and Policy Network.We are an observer member of the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS) and have worked with FEPS on a range of research projects.

Experts at the international Tax Justice Network are close collaborators and we have strong ties with WSR (the Worker Driven Social Responsibility Network) in Washington, D.C. We have worked with the Child Poverty Action Group, Church Action on Poverty, and the Trussell Trust. Our work with trades unions has involved collaborations with GMB and Unions 21.
