Arriving on campus

You will have booked to visit us 10am to 12.30pm or 2 to 4.30pm on your offer holder day. We will also be running other events across campus, such as accommodation tours, so make sure check timings to plan around the school visit.

Please arrive in good time for the start of your booked session, as we'll need to scan the QR code from your booking to register you.

Your arrival location is the The Wave. There will also be lots of open day staff and ambassadors around campus to assist you.

If you arrive late for your booked session, please report to the general information stand on the Students’ Union concourse, where event staff will be able to help.

Sociological Studies offer holder timetable

Arrival and registration

(30 minutes)

Arrive at The Wave for registration. Help yourself to tea and coffee and chat to our staff and student ambassadors before our first session.

Welcome and course talk

(40 minutes)

Now that you hold an offer for our BA Sociology course, or a dual course including Sociology, academic staff and student ambassadors (some of our current students) will dig deeper into the course, covering key information such as modules, contact hours, teaching and assessment methods, projects, trips, and career support. There will also be time at the end of the talk to ask any burning questions you have during a dedicated Q&A.

Meet the school

(20 minutes)

Grab some refreshments and get to know our academic staff, current students, and your potential future coursemates! If you have any further questions after the welcome talk, you can also ask them here.

Life as a Sociology Student

(35 minutes. At the same time as the parent/supporter session)

Chat to our student ambassadors about the reality of student life. They'll be happy to share their experience of the course, school, university and city.

Parents/supporters question and answer session

(35 minutes. At the same time as the 'Life as a Sociology Student' session)

While applicants are with our student ambassadors, parents, carers and guests have the opportunity ask their own questions and speak to current students and senior university staff.

Sociology Seminar

After the separate student and supporters sessions, we'll come back together to discover what it’s like to study Sociology at the University of Sheffield in one of our interactive seminars. You'll get to engage in discussions led by one of our subject experts on topics such as modern slavery, criminality or family life.

At the end of the session, there will also be an opportunity to take final questions and tour our Media Booths.

How to book

Book your place using the link in your invitation email.

When booking, you'll be able to reserve a place for yourself and one guest at the school activities. To ensure safe venue capacities, the school will be unable to accommodate any additional unbooked visitors.

However, you're welcome to bring additional guests to accompany you on the day, and we would encourage these guests to take part in our range of central exhibitions and tours while the school activities are running.
