Alleviating Specific Phobias Experienced by Children Trial (ASPECT) study is looking at the use of a promising alternative to CBT for use in treating children with phobias, called One Session Treatment (OST).
In order to assess the effectiveness of OST when compared to CBT, children are invited to take part in an activity when they are first recruited to the study, to see how close they can get to the thing they are afraid of. This is then repeated after six months, to see what effect the treatment has had on their phobia.
The University’s very own Rory the Tiger has been used as a phobic stimulus already in the study.
