What made you decide to study at the University of Sheffield?

Sheffield's Mathematics and Statistics course stood out because it offered a broader, more flexible curriculum compared to other universities. Despite never visiting the UK before, I felt drawn to the friendly and vibrant impression the city gave me, even from afar. Three years in, I can say Sheffield has truly shaped me, both academically and personally.

What have you enjoyed most about your course so far?

I’ve enjoyed how the course balances challenging modules with plenty of support from lecturers who genuinely care about students. Beyond academics, the sense of community within the School and the friendships I’ve built have made my experience even more rewarding. It’s not just about lectures and written exams—there’s so much more, like problem-solving seminars, engaging projects, and assignments that challenge me to think creatively and apply my knowledge in real-world contexts.

What skills have you developed during your course?

Alongside gaining advanced mathematical and statistical knowledge, I’ve developed strong programming skills in Python and R. My problem-solving and analytical thinking have improved significantly, and I’ve also honed my ability to collaborate and communicate effectively through group projects and presentations.

What would you say to a student thinking about studying your course at Sheffield?

Sheffield’s course gives you both depth and flexibility in your studies, with supportive lecturers and plenty of opportunities to grow. The city itself is welcoming and full of life, making it an excellent place to spend your university years. If you’re passionate about maths, this is the place to be.

What are you planning to do after your degree?

I’m excited to explore roles where I can apply my mathematical and statistical expertise, whether it’s in data science, risk analysis, or finance. I love that my degree has given me the flexibility to transition into diverse fields, and I’m eager to see where it takes me.

What scholarship did you receive?

I received the International Undergraduate Scholarship, worth £2,500 per annum. This scholarship has really motivated me throughout my academic journey. It’s been a great recognition of the hard work I’ve put in, and it encourages me to keep pushing myself to do my best. Knowing that the scholarship is there has helped me stay focused and committed to maintaining my first-class average, and it’s given me the confidence to keep working towards my goals.
