About us

The Mixing Studies group study the mixing of soluble material within water bodies, from pipes to estuaries, to characterise how long it takes water to travel from one location to another and how much the material spreads during the journey.

Professor Ian Guymer and his colleagues work to describe the relevant interactions between water, boundaries, and obstructions, quantifying turbulent and advective phenomena to address topics of pollutant transport and water contamination.

Their work on solute transport helps to inform engineers and environmental managers where contaminants go, how quickly they get there, for how long they remain and in what concentration.
