My university experience
The University of Sheffield provided a great balance of academic, professional, and personal development. Through my Business Management degree, I developed a strong commercial understanding and the analytical skills needed to solve complex problems.
My experience at Sheffield was extremely positive. I enjoyed the balance of academic challenge and student life. The city itself has a very friendly atmosphere and is a really fun place to study. I was also a member of the Business Society and the Golf Society. We competed in the BUCS league and had a lot of social events which were fun!
My involvement in the Business Society and Golf Society helped me build lasting friendships, grow my confidence, and develop valuable networking and leadership skills. Together with my course, these experiences helped prepare me for securing a graduate role in the Commercial Team at L’Oréal and have continued to support me throughout my career.
Overall, the university provided a welcoming community and great opportunities for academic and personal development. I have a lot of fond memories from my time there that will stick with me for life!
My career journey
My placement year in Supply Chain at L’Oreal proved extremely valuable in securing a graduate role post studies and professional development in industry. The Business Management alumni networking sessions were great to connect and learn from other professionals based in and around London. My Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) honours award provided solid credentials to my CV.
I joined L’Oreal on the Commercial Graduate Scheme after doing an internship between studies. I gained experience in Account Management during that time and rolled off the scheme as a National Account Executive managing L’Oreal’s consumer products business with Amazon.
My advice to other students
Stay curious, engaged, and open to opportunities. While your degree is important, it’s only one part of the university experience. Getting involved in societies, events, and extracurricular activities can help you develop skills, build confidence, and expand your network. The more you put into university beyond your studies, the more you’ll get out of it both personally and professionally.
