Studying at Sheffield was an easy choice; the management department is first-class in its standards of education, support, and resources
What made you want to study your course, and why did you decide to study at Sheffield?
Originally, Business Management (BM) was my chosen degree. I felt BM would give me an understanding of how businesses operate from top-to-bottom with modules in accounting, economics and management. I liked that it would allow me to build my career in any direction I desired because of the foundation and knowledge gained from this degree. I made the decision to move to International Business Management (IBM) due to my interest in multination corporations, how they operate compared to domestic companies, and how they have successfully expanded beyond their home nations.
Studying at Sheffield was an easy choice; the management department is first-class in its standards of education, support, and resources. The University itself is world-renowned for its research and student voice, further advancing my career while ensuring I can return the favour and help the University.
What have you enjoyed most about your course so far?
I found the lectures insightful and interesting. Economics was particularly interesting, with the lectures taking a deeper look at the psychology behind economic choices made by society, organisations and governments. The seminars and tutorials were also brilliant with this module.
Business Management in Context had an exciting piece of coursework to complete, and I found myself deeply immersed in the subject as I researched management roles and theories for it.
Working as an academic rep for IBM alongside members of the management department has been an honour, and I am proud that it has boosted my confidence and allowed me to feel part of the university.
What skills and knowledge have you developed during your course?
I have learned a multitude of skills and knowledge, from in-depth theories to public speaking, which is a skill I have always wanted to develop. IBM has given me this opportunity, and I hope to have more in the future.
What are your future career aspirations, and how do you think this degree will help you achieve these?
After graduating, I aim to pursue a master's, then head into the corporate world. I believe with the skills I have developed, I would excel in the sales and insurance sector. After gaining valuable experience in the corporate world, I would then move towards personal entrepreneurship, designing and developing ideas and businesses on an international scale.
This degree is helping me to develop a multitude of skills that I will take forward when operating with clients from around the globe. Through this degree, I will learn accounting, economics, and management skills, all of which I can apply to my future career.
What are you enjoying most about studying in Sheffield?
The University campus is stunning, with lovely parks and buildings that I feel proud to be around. Out of campus, I often visit the Peak District, with beautiful roads, and the driving experience is top-class. Lastly, the food is ten out of ten. Before arriving in Sheffield, I had my doubts about the city; these doubts have cleared, and I now love this place!
