I was really eager to study this course at Sheffield because unlike must universities, it allows you to have a year abroad and a placement year in just 4 year, which I think is so beneficial for my personal development, learning and for my CV when applying to graduate jobs. The course really stood out to me as I wanted to go abroad and experience a new culture and see how business is taught differently in different parts of the world.

Sheffield has really impressed me with the people I've met and the friends I've made, the city is so welcoming and has a lot to offer in terms of places to go out, eat and walk around. I am part of the management and the politics society and they have been a lot of fun to meet new people who have the same interests.

My learning and assessment experience

So far in my course I have enjoyed how mixed the assessment styles are. I have some exams, essays, presentations and group projects that all contribute to my grade. It works really well as the learning is always in a new format, making it more interesting but also easier to learn.

For one of my modules, I had to submit an excel work booklet. Having never used excel before, I was quite scared but the module leader helped so much and I actually found myself enjoying the project as well as gaining knowledge. I have enjoyed getting to know everyone on my course and finding out where everyone is going on their year abroad, it's so nice to meet like minded people who also want to explore the world and business. Right at the beginning of my course we had to write an essay about the Yorkshire Sculpture park and bring our own ideas into it, and I loved how our course leader organised a trip for us to go there. It was a great way for us to all meet each other and connect our assignment directly by seeing it in person.

I have developed of lot of teamwork skills, and have been put in situations where I need to communicate with new people and work as a team. At first this was sometimes difficult, but I believe over the course this has become a skill of mine, making sure everyone is on the same page, communicating and happy working together. I have also gained essay writing skills - there are so many people within the university to help and give advice and I have really tried to make use of this and I think because of that my essay writing has improved greatly.

My plans for the future

I am not completely sure of what I want my future career to be, but I am interested in consulting and marketing which I think this degree will be incredibly helpful with. When working in the world of business you need to be able to adapt to change in your environment and in the world around you. I think my time abroad will be incredible as I will have no choice but to adapt and change. This is very important in consulting, as politics, tax and inflation changes all the times and businesses have to quickly adapt. My placement year will allow me to get real world experience which will be helpful for my future career and exploring what I want to do in my future.
