Profile

Mirna is a Lecturer in Accounting. She is also the Operations Director of the Centre for Research on Accounting and Finance in Context (CRAFiC), and PRME (Principles for Responsible Management Education) Development Director at Sheffield University Management School. She is a scholar with expertise in Enterprise Risk Management and Environmental Disclosure and Performance. Her recent work has focused specifically on broadening the scope of enterprise risk management (ERM) research to include socio-cognitive aspects. Mirna’s articles have been published in internationally recognised journals in her discipline and field. She has also presented her work at many national and international conferences. She serves as a reviewer for several internationally recognised and subject-specific academic journals. She previously served as Editorial Assistant of the International Journal of Management Accounting Research.

Research interests

Mirna’s current research interest lies within management accounting, particularly risk management, Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), and environmental performance.

Teaching interests

Mirna is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Her teaching approach is student-centred, which shifts the activity focus from the lecturer to the student (active and cooperative learning).

She believes in research-led teaching and incorporates this into her teaching practice.

Mirna's teaching interest lies in the area of management accounting. She teaches on several modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Mirna previously led and delivered a research-based module, where third year accounting students were required to conduct research in the area of environmental disclosure.

PhD Supervision

Mirna has successfully supervised a number of PhD students to completion. Their research was in the areas of environmental accounting, risk management, and costing systems.
