What made you want to study your course, and why did you decide to study at Sheffield?

Upon graduating, I knew I wanted to be involved in operations, so I did some research about what makes a good operation successful. I read up on supply chains and processes and knew this is where my skills could be best applied. I could make decisions which impacted business performance through process optimisation.

I looked at many supply chain masters programs so I could specialise in this area. I came across the program at Sheffield, and felt that with university’s reputation and alumni, which have had successful careers after this program, aligned with my goals and aspirations. It was an easy decision for me and I haven’t looked back, it’s a great course with fantastic lecturers.

What have you enjoyed most about your course so far?

The course is rigorous and academically challenging. I’m learning so much and really honing my skills and knowledge of supply chain and logistics processes. I have enjoyed learning about the strategic aspects of the course and why it is vital to efficiency and supply chain resilience. Understanding why firms prioritise their supply chain and how it affects all aspects of the business is something that has really interested me. Tasks such as selecting suppliers, planning the locations of facilities and optimising routes are some just some examples of the knowledge I have acquired during the program.

What skills and knowledge have you developed during your course?

Coming into the program, I felt I had the soft skills to make a good career in the workplace, Sheffield and its faculty has built on that and given me even more confidence in this area. What I have really developed on this course is my hard skills. The topics which we cover on the program are challenging and I have found my knowledge and understanding of the supply chain, and the processes which go into it, has grown exponentially.

What are your future career aspirations, and how do you think this degree will help you achieve these?

Fortunately, I have achieved what I set out to when first beginning this course and that was to land a graduate role. In September I will begin a two year graduate program with Airbus as part of the global graduate scheme in the supply chain and logistics department. This course allowed me to stand out from the crowd and land a highly competitive role. My understanding of supply chain and confidence in communicating helped me land this role and they are aspects of myself I have built on this programme

What are you enjoying most about Sheffield?

I’m from Doncaster, so I know all about the beauty of this great county and Sheffield as a city. Yorkshire is a beautiful place and Sheffield as a city offers students so much. The nightlife is fantastic, plenty of places to eat and home to some of this country’s great sports teams. There’s so many things to do in and around Yorkshire and with a train station at your doorstep nothing is too far away.
