Our core pillars
As you step into the next phase of your career journey, the Sheffield MBA will equip you with the knowledge, skills and behaviours you need to lead, create initiatives and influence others.
Leadership
Throughout your MBA journey, you will engage with cutting edge academic thinking on leadership and have the opportunity to hone your leadership skills and network with business leaders from across the UK and globally.
In the Global Managerial Economics module, you will develop the skills of a corporate manager through the use of theories and frameworks to undertake critical analysis of company strategies, whilst in the Operations Management module, you will explore dynamic operational contexts within the modern business landscape and implement strategies to utilise technologies that enhance efficiency, productivity and competitiveness. You will also develop leadership skills through the Intelligent Organisation module by selecting the most suitable technologies for specific challenges and designing a practical implementation plan aligned with the readiness of the business.
You will engage with advance management learning practices and learn to apply the latest theories of leadership to how you work in the Responsible and Effective Leadership module. As part of this module, you will have the opportunity to learn from a senior business leader at our Leadership Dinner.
Throughout your MBA journey, there will be further input from external speakers who are exceptional values-based leaders, as well as many opportunities to hone your leadership skills when working with others to complete in class activities and challenges.
Meeting recognised leaders at the Leadership Dinner provides a critical insight into the minds and thoughts of those that have already achieved at the highest level. It’s a very good way to learn from the success and failures of leaders who have been genuinely open and honest in discussions with students.

Entrepreneurship
At the centre of entrepreneurship, you need to be able to work with, guide and influence others. By learning the attributes of an entrepreneur, you will gain the confidence to make effective business decisions and know how to evaluate opportunities.
Through the Responsible and Effective Leadership module, you will learn advanced leadership practices and gain an understanding of how to critically apply theories to your practice. Through the Internationalisation Challenge and Marketing Consultancy Challenge, you will be encouraged to think innovatively, assess risks and devise creative solutions for international business growth, hence strengthening your entrepreneurial mindset. You will test and grow your entrepreneurial skills to create a business plan and pitch that plan to a team of investors within the New Venture Creation Challenge. You will be mentored throughout this module, as well as having exposure to a number of successful entrepreneurs.
Entrepreneurship is also one of the key topics you will discover as you embark on the international study trip to Germany.
What an amazing trip our MBA cohort had to Germany! I gained insights into German business culture and had enriching discussions with my peers about "Mittelstand" and the influences of national cultural values on businesses. Many of my assumptions about Germany and family-run SMEs were challenged. It was a reminder of the importance of values in any business, from start-ups like "The Gentleman's" to industry leaders like BASF.

Consultancy
At the centre of consulting successfully, you need to be able to effectively work with, guide and influence others. Through your MBA journey, you will be prepared with a strategic mind and analytical skills required to unlock the full potential of an organisation.
Within the Intelligent Organisation module, you will develop consultancy capabilities by proposing practical solutions to accelerate digital transformation. By using company-specific and context-specific data and information to undertake critical analysis of company strategies in the Global Managerial Economics module, you will develop the skills of a consultant. Through learning advanced leadership practices, within the Responsible and Effective Leadership module, and by understanding how to critically apply theories to your practice, you will be able to maximise impact from your consultancy.
You will develop your consultancy skills through our ‘challenge’ modules, including the Marketing Consultancy Challenge and the Internationalisation Challenge. You will put your consultancy and subject knowledge and skills into practice, working as part of a consulting team to provide your clients with valuable insights for dealing with their challenges.
One of the highlights of the MBA experience was collaborating with a South Yorkshire company. This project truly tested my consultancy skills, as our group of five international students had to work closely with a local business. Initially, I thought language and cultural differences might pose challenges, but they actually pushed us to think outside the box and propose innovative ideas that were fresh to the company.
