Harriet Sims
BA Business Management with Employment Experience
Member of the Dean’s List, class of 2021
Harriet joined the Management School on a High Achievers Scholarship and she continued to deliver excellent results throughout her studies.
Helping the community
Harriet engaged with her local community throughout her time studying, and particularly in her role as a ‘Check in and Chat Volunteer’ for FoodCycle, a charity that tackles food poverty and social isolation. She provided much needed support helping vulnerable members of the community to access vital resources and services.
Taking on the challenging roles of Events Secretary and then Vice President for Management Society during the pandemic, Harriet realised the importance of keeping members in contact with each other. She initiated the ‘Tea for Two’ project which kept over 100 society-members in touch throughout the lockdowns of the COVID-19 crisis. The project helped the Society to earn the title of “Society of the Week” twice, awarded by the Sheffield Students’ Union.
A University advocate
Harriet demonstrated a strong advocacy for the University through the various ambassador roles she held during her studies. Drawing upon her own experiences and sharing these with other students, she was a successful Student Ambassador and Futures First Ambassador, helping peers settle into University life and develop their own employability skills.
She was also a Student Caller for the University’s Alumni Fund, helping to strengthen the University’s alumni relations.
Professional portfolio
As well as the experience Harriet gained from her Ambassador and Society roles at University she also completed a placement year at SAP UKI, as the Managing Director’s Office Associate and Corporate Social Responsibility Lead, as part of her Business Management degree.
During her placement year Harriet took the opportunity to further develop her event planning experience when she was nominated to support the Managing Director on a trip to the Dublin Office to host an awards ceremony.
She also gained experience in part-time jobs in retail, took part in careers coaching and mock assessment centres.
After graduating from Sheffield University Management School, Harriet secured a place on the ASDA Graduate Scheme.
