On 11 January we awarded the newest members of the Dean’s List in our annual winter Prize Giving and Thank You Ceremony at Firth Hall, the University’s first purpose-built building at the heart of campus.
We are delighted to welcome three of our highest achieving graduates to the postgraduate Dean’s List, in the class of 2022.
Claudia Holly Bullock
MSc Human Resource Management with CIPD Pathway
Claudia demonstrated an excellent approach to improving her employability and supporting her community. At manufacturing company Conspare, she impressed her work experience managers so much that she was invited back for a fourteen-week internship. Her outstanding achievements also include learning from our alumni as part of the University of Sheffield eMentoring scheme, and turning her part-time job at a chain restaurant Bella Italia into an opportunity to shadow the company’s HR team at their Head Office.
As a volunteer with St Vincent’s Furniture Project, Claudia helped to cement the charity’s links with the University’s Accommodation Services, resulting in an increase in furniture donations to the charity. During her studies, Claudia was also a dedicated Student Ambassador, Academic Representative and Faculty Representative.
Alex Thomas Hamling
MSc Marketing Management Practice
Praised for his commitment and dedication in his role with Alliance Events, Alex’s managers commended him as a “key leader” in the team. His successful leadership skills were also present in his role as the Sheffield Team Leader in the University Business Challenge, reaching the Grand Final of the competition. He also demonstrated a consistent focus on further personal development, working with a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner to improve his resilience and emotional well-being.
Alex has a clear passion for helping others. He has maintained the roles of both Academic Representative and Faculty Representative throughout his studies, and supported The Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind (SRSB). He even connected the SRSB with the Lego Foundation Braille Bricks Initiative, so that their children’s educational group could benefit from the scheme.
Zaid Jafri
MSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management
Zaid took on a huge number of opportunities to increase his professional skills and work experience, completing a company project as well as numerous online courses. He joined the University eMentoring scheme to gain valuable insight from alumni, and held a part-time job with the NHS alongside his studies.
Zaid is a fantastic role model who continuously goes out of his way to support others. He volunteered with the Mafiq Foundation’s muslim youth development programme as a public speaking and leadership mentor. While volunteering at St Luke’s Hospice Charity, he helped to make supply chain improvements by sharing learnings from his degree course. In the University’s Table Tennis team he shared techniques with fellow students, having been a state-level player in his home country. Zaid also undertook the roles of both Student Ambassador and Academic Representative during his programme of study.
We look forward to keeping in touch with our newest members of the Dean’s List as well as all of our alumni in Sheffield University Management School’s postgraduate class of 2022!
