The Centre for Machine Intelligence (CMI) welcomed Professor Tom Crick, Chief Scientific Adviser for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), for a visit focused on policy engagement and collaboration opportunities.

Led by CMI Theme Leads, Dr Susan Oman and Dr Denis Newman-Griffis, the visit featured presentations from University of Sheffield experts across multiple Schools, highlighting work in AI, digital policy, and the creative industries.

Discussions centred on strengthening connections between academic research and policy, and positioning Sheffield’s expertise within national digital and AI strategies. Professor Crick also emphasised the importance of ongoing collaboration, with opportunities to strengthen research-policy links.

The visit reinforced the Centre’s commitment to shaping AI policy and driving impactful research at a national level, ensuring Sheffield’s contributions are recognised in key policy discussions.
