Professor He graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in China with a BSc and MSc degree in thermal power engineering.
He then pursued his doctoral research in the Nuclear Engineering Research Group at the University of Manchester where he received his PhD in 1992.
Following six years post-doctoral research in Manchester, he joined British Energy’s reactor thermal hydraulics team, where he served as an analyst for over three years.
He returned to academic life in 2002 as a lecturer and later a reader at Robert Gordon University, and moved to the University of Aberdeen in 2005 as a senior lecturer and then a reader in 2008. He joined the University of Sheffield as a chair in thermofluids in March 2011.
