Description
This module builds on the upper-intermediate skills developed in Korean Language 5 and further advances students' proficiency towards an advanced level. The module focuses on four key areas required of competent advanced learners of Korean: translation between Korean and English, advanced reading and analysis of authentic Korean texts, Korean writing with an emphasis on short reports and data interpretation, and speaking through classroom discussions and assessed individual presentations. Students will work with a wide range of authentic materials. The module also includes opportunities for group work, which support students in selecting and analysing materials while further developing their independence as advanced learners. Advanced grammar, vocabulary, and discourse strategies are consolidated and extended throughout. In addition to linguistic development, this module helps students build key employability skills and develop their strengths for future careers. By the end of the module, students are expected to reach a proficiency level roughly equivalent to TOPIK Advanced (Level 6) or CEFR C1+.
Learning outcomes
- Translate advanced Korean texts into good English.
- Produce accurate word-limited summaries of Korean information-bearing texts.
- Write academic pieces of writing using appropriate vocabulary and advanced grammar.
- Present formally in Korean both individually and as part of a group.
