- Johnstown Castle Seminar Series

Department of Agriculture,Food and Marine (DAFM), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Wexford County Council, students, scientists.
This seminar series is used within Teagasc to engage a variety of stakeholders from regulation to farmers groups to attend specific talks and field visits. On this occasion the group were introduced to Inspiration ITN and we took a visit to a denitrifying bioreactor which is used to treat nitrates from drainage systems.

An all inclusive presentation was made by Golnaz Ezzati during the EM-SALAM project which led onto an introduction with respect to her new project INSPIRATION ITN.

Two schools from local areas - 60 kids over 2 days
Interaction with local community transferring knowledge relating to Inspiration ITN. Two schools participated in the 2 day long activities. The kids were aged between 8-10 yrs old and learned about land drainage, cleaning up water and dairy farming.

A presentation was made to this Finnish group of farmers and growers with respect to land drainage research in Ireland. As part of this presentation and discussion the Inspiration ITN project was show cased and a visit was conducted to the dairy farm. Diverse group of advisors (private and Teagasc), farmers and professionals attend this course every year and Owen Fenton takes the land drainage component. On this occasion the group were taken to see the Inspiration ITN site where unsaturated zone gases are being examined in collaboration with UFZ in Germany.

The participants were invited to present an full article for the special issue of the journal Biomass and Bioenerge with the topic of the conference. This was the first conference exclusively dedicated to the discussion of production technologies, applications and characterisation of biochar. The International Biochar Initiative (IBI) has joined all the presentations and soon will be published it on the website.
