I love the city, love West Street, love Pop Tarts. I'm glad I got to do it all in Sheffield

After graduating, I moved to Marbella to do a summer internship at a local English-language newspaper based there. I then got a job offer to start working at ITN in London as an assistant producer. I now work at ITV News and Channel 5 News on a variety of roles, including mainly the foreign desk and news desk logistics.

I learned so much at uni, from my course to everything I got to do outside the lecture theatre

My course being NCTJ accredited helped massively as I have a solid knowledge of media law, which comes in handy every day at my job. I could go on about the course and how incredible the tutors in the School of Journalism are. The university and Sheffield in general made me who I am, which is also important. It gave me the most memorable and incredible experiences ever, which set me up for what I'm doing now. Even the setting, like living in Crookesmoor and going to great parties every weekend, gave me so much in life.

My year abroad massively benefitted me

I got much better at Spanish because of it, and it gave me the option of doing my summer internship, and now working on a number of stories in Spanish for ITV News. There's actually not that many people there that speak other languages so me being fluent in Spanish comes in handy. Being the Head of News at Forge TV and starting the award winning programme This Week in Sheffield also taught me so much that I now apply in my work. Furthermore, my placement I did in the summer at 5 News allowed me to make some friends in the company, which was kind of what helped me land my current job.

I was the Head of News at Forge TV

It was quite a ride! I started a news show which I presented, now it's being done by my former reporters who are continuing the legacy and doing an incredible job. Being Head of News also meant I organised coverage of the SU elections, which was fun. In second year I was in Swimming and Water Polo society which was also great.

Sheffield is just the best place

The School of Journalism and the Wave are amazing, the tutors are great. Not long ago one of my tutors got in touch with me to encourage me to submit my final project (which is a documentary) to a national award. Turns out it got shortlisted and I won Best Video Journalism, so even after I graduated, my tutors are still helping me in life. They're genuinely the best.

My advice?

Do everything you possibly can, go to as many parties as you can, go to Crookes Valley Park on sunny weekends and don't take life too seriously because it's over so quickly. Also if you want to go into TV, get involved with Forge TV and be proactive. It's the best thing you can do; don't wait for someone else to give you opportunities - make them yourself and get things done if you want them.

I love the city, love West Street, love Pop Tarts. I miss uni a lot but I'm glad I got to do it all in Sheffield.
