The 2026 UKAIS conference will be held on the 9th and 10th of April in the Faculty of Social Sciences’ flagship building, The Wave. Its theme is ‘Make the World a Better Place: The Future of Intelligent Technology’.

Presentations at the conference will be split into various strands covering topics like surveillance and privacy, sustainable and responsible AI, social media, human-computer interaction, wearables and smart technology, and more.

Overall, the conference aims to ‘critically examine the role of technology in society, challenging the set of assumptions and generating new ideas on how we can employ technology to make the world a better place.’

This year’s conference is co-organised by Prof Laurence Brooks, Dr Itzelle Medina Perea, Dr Sharon Wagg and Dr Jun Zhang from the School of Information, Journalism and Communication, along with colleagues from Salford University and Liverpool Business School.

Professor Laurence Brooks, Professor of Information Systems said: "We are very excited to be hosting the UK Academy for Information Systems 2026 national conference here in the wonderful Wave building at the University of Sheffield. This is an opportunity for Information Systems academics to gather together and share ideas, innovation and best practices in both research and teaching, and truly make the world with its digital future a better place."

In addition to the main conference, a doctoral consortium will be held on the 8th of April, where PhD students will present and discuss their research. This one-day event will culminate in a keynote presentation from Prof Pamela Abbott, Professor of Information Systems at the School of Information, Journalism and Communication.
