Developing interventions

We're developing new policies, practices and products for intervention at all stages of the lifespan that will prevent or delay multimorbidity, including the development and clinical testing of drugs that target multiple diseases and boost resilience against frailty.

Creative health

Led by Professor Renee Timmers, we are exploring the intersection of arts and humanities with health and wellbeing. We investigate the role of language and cultural context in enabling or inhibiting access to health promotion.

Nutrition

Led by Dr Liz Williams, we're researching the role of nutrition in healthy ageing. We're developing nutrition interventions that tackle diseases associated with ageing and multimorbidity and using novel approaches and technology to support healthy lifestyle choices.

Place and communities

Led by Professor Liddy Goyder, we're supporting and promoting multidisciplinary research and knowledge mobilisation with local government and community partners across Sheffield and the Sheffield City Region.

Translational Geroscience

Led by Professor Ilaria Bellantuono, we're developing in vitro and in vivo drug screening systems for geroprotectors. We're developing a robust pipeline for in vivo drug testing of healthspan in ageing mice and models of multimorbidity to become the UK reference centre for the clinical testing of geroprotectors.

Biomarkers and imaging

Led by Professor Steven Sourbron, we're using medical imaging biomarkers to improve our understanding and management of multimorbidity and organ interactions in human disease. We offer infrastructure, technical solutions and support for integrating medical imaging biomarkers as primary or secondary endpoints in clinical or preclinical research.

Inequalities and intersectionality

Led by Dr Dan Holman and Dr Meesha Warmington, we're taking an intersectional perspective to interrogate the policies and interventions we can design to address inequalities in healthy ageing and multimorbidity.

Employment and health

We're understanding the connections between work and employment and physical and mental health.
We're exploring how the health of individuals is influenced by, among other things, their employment status, earnings, work environment, workloads, use of technology and the extent and intensity of their working time.
