Professor Parveen Ali, Professor of Nursing and Gender Based Violence, from the School of Allied Health Professions, Pharmacy, Nursing and Midwifery, has been awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), one of the most distinguished honours in the healthcare professions.

The Fellowship was conferred at a formal ceremony recently in Dublin, recognising Professor Ali’s exceptional contributions to nursing, research leadership, and global health.

RCSI Fellowships are awarded to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding impact through scholarship, service, and leadership. Professor Ali was selected in recognition of her sustained commitment to advancing nursing research, addressing gender-based violence, and building international partnerships that improve health and social care outcomes worldwide.

Reflecting on the honour, Professor Parveen Ali said:

“It is a privilege to join the community of RCSI Fellows. Much of my work is rooted in collaboration, mentorship, and amplifying the voices of women and marginalised groups. I am grateful to colleagues past and present, whose support, guidance and belief in my work have shaped my academic journey. Receiving this fellowship is both a personal milestone and a recognition of the value of nursing leadership in addressing some of society’s most urgent challenges.”

Professor Ali has also played a key role in shaping nursing education internationally, having served as an external examiner for RCSI for several years. In this role, she contributed to maintaining the College’s high academic standards and supporting the development of future nursing and healthcare leaders.

Her research and leadership in domestic abuse, cultural competence, research capacity-building, and international health partnerships have had a lasting influence across the UK, Ireland, and global healthcare systems.
