Integrating Biofilm-Driven Disinfectant Decay into Hydraulic Modelling and Quantitative Microbial Risk Assessment for Drinking Water Distribution Systems (QMRA).
The project:
Konstantinos' doctoral research focuses on the interaction between biofilms, disinfectant decay, and pathogen persistence in Drinking Water Distribution Systems (DWDS). He am planning to develop an integrated experimental and computational framework that links biofilm-mediated chlorine decay with hydraulic modelling and Quantitative Microbial Risk Assessment (QMRA) to improve risk-based drinking water management.
Outreach and Impact Activities:
Konstantinos engages with the water sector through technical presentations, seminars, and applied research outputs aimed at supporting risk-based drinking water management. My work seeks to inform water utilities and regulators by translating experimental and modelling findings into practical insights for water safety planning and public health protection.
