Blade factory digital twin for recording and analysing production parameters

The project

Offshore wind targets for the UK are growing to meet our demands for a zero-carbon energy system. To do this we need to manufacture wind turbines at an unprecedented rate which brings forth many challenges for the production process.

The project is focused on creating a digital twin for an offshore wind turbine blade factory to help future proof the manufacturing sector. Digital twins are an exciting technology that link the physical and virtual worlds and can be used as a baseplate for optimising processes and products. By ensuring our manufacturing processes are working as efficiently as possible we can reduce waste in all forms and this will lessen the environmental impact of our transition to a zero-carbon society.
